Heat Pump Compressor Noise: The Redesigned Mounting Bracket

A buzzing vibration through the floor when the heat pump runs — Polestar redesigned the AC compressor bracket to fix it.

If your Polestar 2 has a heat pump (available from 2022 with the Plus Pack, standard on US cars from 2025) and you feel a noticeable buzz or vibration through the floor — especially when the HVAC system is working hard — you're not alone. This is a known issue caused by the AC compressor's mounting bracket transmitting vibrations into the chassis.

Symptoms

  • Buzzing or humming vibration felt through the floor, particularly in the footwell area
  • Most noticeable when the heat pump or AC is running at high output — for example, when heating/cooling the cabin and battery simultaneously
  • Can occur when stationary or at low speeds (road noise masks it at higher speeds)
  • Often more prominent after DC fast charging, when the thermal management system is actively cooling the battery
  • The vibration is physical as well as audible — you can feel it through the pedals and floor

What Causes It

The AC compressor in heat-pump-equipped Polestar 2s generates vibrations during normal operation. The original mounting bracket did not adequately isolate these vibrations from the vehicle's chassis, allowing them to transmit through the body structure and into the cabin.

The Fix

Polestar acknowledged the issue and developed a redesigned AC compressor mounting bracket:

  1. 1.Redesigned bracket: The new part is not a like-for-like replacement — it's a completely different design with improved vibration damping. The original spring/mount mechanism was replaced with a more effective isolation system.
  2. 2.Hose routing: In some cases, the AC hoses also need to be re-routed during the repair. If hoses contact the chassis frame, they can transmit vibrations regardless of the bracket — so proper routing is part of the fix.
  3. 3.Service center repair: This is a dealer repair. The compressor needs to be partially dismounted to swap the bracket, and the AC system may need to be evacuated and recharged.

Does It Fully Fix the Problem?

For most owners, the redesigned bracket eliminates or dramatically reduces the vibration. However, some owners of newer cars have reported that milder vibrations can persist — suggesting there may be multiple vibration paths (hose contact, other mounts) that vary from car to car. If vibration remains after the bracket replacement, ask the service center to also inspect and adjust the refrigerant hose routing.

Parts

The Polestar 2 shares the CMA platform with the Volvo XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge, and the AC compressor mounting bracket is a shared part across those vehicles.

Part NumberDescription
32275530Original bracket — insufficient vibration isolation; the source of the problem
32352687Updated redesigned bracket (correct replacement part)
32369554Isolator/insulator — included with 32352687, no need to order separately

Cost

The repair is typically covered under warranty. Out-of-warranty, the bracket itself is inexpensive — the main cost is labor, as it involves partially dismounting the AC compressor and may require evacuating and recharging the AC system.

Which Model Years Are Affected

2022–2025 models equipped with the heat pump. Cars without the heat pump option are not affected. The revised bracket has been fitted to later production runs, though the exact changeover point varies.
